Pele
The goddess awakens, fire raging in her heart. With a deep growl, she tears off her mantle. Molten lava oozes from her pores.
The ocean’s touch soothes her. She relents and slumbers again.

This is my submission for this weekend’s Trifecta Challenge. Here are the guidelines we were given:
As you’ll recall from your elementary science class days, the structure of the earth can be divided most simply into three sections: core, mantle, crust.
Give us 33 words from it. Interpret the prompt however you wish–literal, metaphorical, or somewhere in between.

I like this. Great picture.
Thanks Paula! I wish I could get that close to Pele more regularly!
Rawr! …. Zzzzzzz. I liked it, great metaphorical biography of the experience.
Thank you Dawn! And thanks for commenting!
never anger Madame Pele . . . do NOT take rocks from her shore – you will pay. 🙂 well done. Love the pic. Longing to go back to the islands someday.
Very true – she is definitely not a goddess you want to tick off!
Thanks Barbara! I hope to go back someday as well.
Love that woman power-a true Goddess-takes a lot to anger her -but when she does get anger, she literally spews fire & brimstone-so better let her slumber!A strong message here:-)
Yeah, it’s a bit like waking me up early on the weekend!
Thanks for your comments!
🙂
Wow, great imagery! You painted this piece very well!
Thank you so much Kim!
Love how your 33 words tell a complete story. Beginning, middle and end in 33 simple, yet rich, words.
Thanks for your comment – that’s definitely what I was going for. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
This is really well written! Great imagery!
Thank you so much!
You packed a cool story in this poem. Nicely done.
Thanks Lumdog!
I, too, liked the structure of your piece. There is a completeness to what you wrote. Very well done!
Thanks for your comment Tom! I’m glad you liked it – I love trying to tell a story in 33 words!
Terrific imagery! I like how you took her from raging to soothed in 33 words.
Thank you Janna! I wanted to express the volatility of Pele’s nature – glad to hear that came through.
Great piece. Really good. Liked it 🙂
Thanks so much! I’m glad you liked it.
I love this (: Sort of a turbulent love story with the volcano and ocean!
Thanks for your comment Draug! I’m glad you picked up on that relationship – I wanted to explore it more but I ran out of words!
The ocean really does have a way to sooth, no? Great imagery in this piece!
Yeah, there’s something about the ocean that touches the soul. Wish I lived closer to one… Thanks for the comment Sandra!
You know, Pele came to my mind too. Something very powerful about her image, I think. Lovely.
Thanks Christine! Yeah, Pele is a wonderful, powerful female image – I thought of volcanoes as soon as I saw the prompt.
Gorgeous work. It made me feel like tearing off my own inhibitions and rawring at the moon.
I’m glad you felt inspired! It’s nice to get in touch with that side of our natures sometimes. Thanks for your comment!
Nicely done! I love the goddess reference!
Thanks Joe!
Congrats on the trifecta placement! Oh that we all have someone who soothes our turbulence. Terrific piece!
Thank you Stephanie! Maybe a place by the ocean would do the trick?
Congratulations on your win and I’m not the least bit surprised. This is really beautiful Suzanne! 😀
Aw, thanks Linda! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Congratulations, Suzanne! I aspire to emulate your Pele. Gorgeous.
Thank you Kymm! I think it’s good to aspire to be like Pele, at least some of the time.
