Chains
Eyes closed, he walks through the mist of childhood. Remembers laughter, sunshine and open-ended freedom.
Restrained now, by wires and tubes and human frailty. He closes his eyes again, waiting to be liberated.

Elegantly Beautiful Suzanne.
Aw, thank you so much Joan!
nicely done, Suzanne. It’s all at once hopeless, but hopeful.
Exactly. Thank you Barbara!
)’: The contrast is so sad. Lovely piece.
Thanks Draug!
This is beautiful and so sad. I loved it.
Thank you so much Wendy!
This is so touching. I really liked the idea of the old man looking back and walking through the mist of childhood.
Thank you Sarah Ann – I’m glad you liked it.
Memories are all we have in the end..So eloquently expressed Suzanne, loved it:-)
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked it.
🙂
“The mist of childhood” – what a lovely, evocative phrase.
Aw, thanks Christine!
So many emotions in just a few words. Very nice.
Thank you Deana!
Wonderfully written and touching in only 33 words. I think this is beautiful.
Thank you so much Donetta!
As always a great piece. I love the emotion you pull from this. Very touching.
Aw, you’re so sweet! Thanks for your comments Deb!
Let freedom ring!
Yes indeed! 🙂
Following thread of closed eyes is especially poignant. Lovely piece, Suzanne.
And the feeling of anticipation is mutual!
Aw, thank you so much Kymm! I’m glad you picked up on the closed eyes thread.
Such an intriguing image. Your words are challenging because I cannot imagine him being able to escape the chains. Ill health – at an advanced age – is so often a veritable death sentence. Hey, don’t think I don’t like your piece. It’s great. Very evocative. You have just captured a mood so well. For someone my age, very daunting!
Thanks for commenting David! I think sometimes death is a kind of freedom, especially when you become so trapped by your own body…
Power and emotion packed into every word. A beautiful piece.
Thank you so much Marisa!
This is a beautifully written piece for a terribly sad (and yet, as you say, liberating) moment. Well done.
Aw, thank you for such lovely comments!
If I was wearing a hat I would tip it to you, such a beautifully written piece. Seeking his liberation to go into the mist where he remembered the happiness of his childhood.
What a great comment! Thank you so much!
I can’t say more than has already been said.. Very moving and a thought for us all…x
Thank you for commenting!
Ah, but liberty is sometimes a shock itself.
Very true. Thanks for your comment!
That is beautiful. We all know what it’s like to look back from different distances.
Yes indeed. Thank you for commenting Gina!
I let out a big held breath at the end of this, just beautiful Suzanne.
Aw, thank you so much for your comments!
that was lovely. ‘open-ended freedom’ is something i wish we could retain as we grow older and forget the constraints of ‘human frailty’.
Yes, there’s nothing quite like that sense of open-ended freedom… Thanks for your comments Renada!
thought provoking and engaging. http://annbennett2.blogspot.com
