Trifextra: Absolutely



Three things in effective large-scale atrocities are imperative.
First is absolute power. (corrupts) Second is absolute power. (corrupting)
And the third is absolute power. (corrupted)


This is my submission for this weekend’s Trifextra challenge in which we had to do something a little different. Here are the instructions:

This weekend we are asking you to play around with the following quote:

Three things in human life are important. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. And the third is to be kind.
–Henry James

We want you to follow the same general structure of the above quote.  Feel free to change the subject–tell us what’s important about coffee or houseplants or whatever you’d like.  Or else change up the modifier–instead of telling us what’s important, tell us what’s sexy or overrated or pernicious.  Your last three lines should closely echo James’s, giving us the same answer three times.

  1. When was the last time that we had a true leader for and of the people? Jack Layton? Lech Walesa? Nelson Mandela? Definitely wonderin’ where the Lions are as Mandela’s life force ebbs. Thanks for posting such an important reminder about power and abuse.
    Btw, Cheyenne won the award for “Excellence in Composition” at our year-end assembly. As mentioned several challenges ago, you are welcome to do anything you might like to help Cheyenne/me next year. She admires you (and the entire Trifecta community greatly.) Happy Canada Day, Suzanne! 🙂

  2. I’ve always found the saying “absolute power corrupts absolutely” so telling and consistent. What a great take on the prompt this weekend. I am especially drawn in by the finality of (corrupted) at the end. .

  3. the added words are what made this more brilliant than it was. There is nothing worse than someone that needs to be ABSOLUTE.
