Trifextra: Prey

Something skitters in the darkness
Crawling through shadows
Claws clicking across the floor
Towards the woman

She can’t see it
But she knows it’s not human
As she lies, immobilized, inside its web.

This is my submission for this weekend’s Trifextra challenge, in which we had to write 33 words about something that scares us or our character. I think it’s safe to say that in this case we’re both scared!

Speaking of scary, you should check out the Speakeasy creative writing challenge. This month, we’ve been asking our writers to channel their most frightening, fear-inducing writing—and they have taken to the challenge like zombie ducks to infested waters! If you feel like reading or writing something scary, come check out our prompts for the coming week.

  1. I. Hate. Spiders.
This is terrifyingly brilliant Suzanne, and if I was in that situation, I think fear would kill me before the creature got a chance too;)

    1. Thanks Valerie! I try really hard to like spiders because I know they eat mosquitoes and stuff, but the bigger they are, the harder that is! And yeah, I would hope to die of fear before the critter reached me too. 🙂

  2. Cool! I don’t like spiders or any insect for that matter. Good job! I always liked the quote, “Oh, what a tangled web we weave when at first we practice to deceive.”

  3. Being immobilized is scary enough – knowing that you’re only so, because you’re “what’s for dinner, would damned-near have me screaming! Well, you know, more than usual… =)

  4. well you scared me. (not that it’s hard to do that 😉 )
this was very good and just creepy enough.

Hope you had a great weekend.
